Some of us from the old Confrontation forums have recently started a new site, Dragon Painting.  It’s still very much a work in progress, but we hope to have things smoothed out and more established soon.  All are welcome.

Do yourself a favor and check out these blogs administered by two very talented Japanese modelers.  They are masters of kit-bashing and scratch building a variety of models, focusing mainly on Star Wars.  But don’t let that deter you.  Trust me.

And don’t worry if you can’t read Japanese.  Just click on the calendar or page numbers to navigate their sites.

Beautiful stuff.  Click on the images above to be taken to the corresponding blogs.

Stormtroopers 365

Your daily shot of Stormtroopers.
For one year.
Starting April 3rd 2009.

I learned about this from a thread started by YAAF on Frothers.  Click on the image to start the slide show, if you’re interested.  Total running time is about 10 minutes.

I was big into Star Wars collecting back in the early 90s, but my interest waned right about the time when the revamped original trilogy started showing in theaters.  Then a few months ago I started coming across packs of 1/144 (≈10mm) Star Wars vehicles (F-Toys) in the local super markets and hobby stores.  Now I’ve got a nice little collection of AT-ATs, AT-STs, snow speeders, etc., just in case I finally get around to playing a variant game of Assault on Hoth some day.

Copplestone Castings is selling these models now (second wave only), for those of you who missed his announcement.  Get them now, however, because they’re selling fast and are limited to one print run.

Settlement, Finally…Hobbit’s a Go

Anthony McCartney, writing for the AP, reports that the long-standing feud between New Line and the Tolkien estate is finally over:

The heirs of J.R.R. Tolkien and a movie studio that produced the blockbuster “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy have settled a lawsuit over the films’ profits, it was announced Tuesday.

Hobby Products

Tamiya Putty, thinner, Dr. Ph. Martin’s ink, brass leaves, and a handful of styrene strips in various sizes from Plastruct.

I’m going to use the putty, diluted with the thinner, to fill some pits on a couple Copplestone models.  Jérémie Teboul recommends this method on his DVD, so I thought I’d give it a try.

I got the Dr. Martin’s ink as a test, and am very happy with the results.  I plan to stock up on a few colors.

I’ve never worked with brass foliage, and snatched these up since they were on sale.  They look like they have lots of potential.

The styrene strips are for a super secret project I’m working on at the moment.  I will post pictures eventually.
