Koren the Chosen, finished

I finished Koren (left) last night.  It was a much longer process than I anticipated, but mainly because I got distracted by some other projects at the midway point.

I’ll need to upload some better pictures soon, but for now I hope these suffice to demonstrate the direction I went with this model.

Andrea Color, flesh paint set

I received the Flesh Paint Set by Andrea in the post this morning, and am eager to put it to good use.  I’ve got the white and black sets, too, but have experimented with them only a bit.  A recent comment in the DP forum by the extremely talented Anakron encouraged me to get some more Andrea paints and take them out for a worthy test drive.  Expect a review from me on all three sets in my possession (black, white, and flesh) and my general impressions on working with Andrea’s new paint formula.

Andrea's Flesh Paint Set comes with six 17ml bottles of paint and an instruction booklet

Koren, last WIP update

Here’s where things stand as of last night (I’m taking this evening off).

I almost made a complete mess of the sash around his waist, and still need to fix some things here and there; but for the most part that is done.

I still need to finish the axe (saving that for last), base, buckles (bull heads x3), straps, and cape.  He’ll be done on Friday, I think, Saturday at the latest (since I’m taking the night off).

You can see the mess I need to clean up on the sash in this photo.

Koren, almost done

Koren up close

I’m almost done with Koren.  I was supposed to have this finished yesterday as part of a Rackham tribute over at Dragon Painting, but got distracted for too long by all my other projects.  I wanted to share some WIPs, but none of the pictures turned out well enough to upload here.

While investigating the photos using the zoom function, I realized that many of the details I added to his face are nearly imperceptible to the naked eye.  The reddish touches I added under the eyes, for example.

Koren should be done in a few days.  I’ll wait until then to upload more pictures of him.

Cadwallon: City of Thieves, preview

Box art for the forthcoming Cadwallon: City of Thieves board game

The Dust Games page on Facebook recently uploaded a preview image of the new Cadwallon: City of Thieves board game and the following announcement:

PREVIEW! At Gama Show in Las Vegas we will present City of Thieves our new board game. Here is 3D snapshot of the cover. If you will be at GAMA at end of March come at the AEG booth and you will have a very nice give away (while stock lasts). For our French players going to Cannes our friends of HAZGAARD, Erwan and Frederic will show you the box, the board and 8 nice figures that will be included in the game (that will contain 20 brand new figures)! Hazgaard is the French publisher of the game and they did an incredible job with Laurent and Pascal the designers of the game.

Special thanks to alltunder over at the Dragon Painting forum for bringing this update to my attention!

Unseen Lerker, new gaming magazine

Unseen Lerker, vol.1, no. 1

There’s a new player in the gaming magazine industry, Unseen Lerker:

Unseen Lerker is a brand new magazine which covers not
only on Warhammer, the game of fantasy battles, but also on
related gaming experiences like computer games, board
games and alternative, often ridiculous sports that likeminded
readers such as yourselves might be interested in. We
hope to not only give you the gaming experience you crave,
but also challenge you to go venture outside your comfort
zone a little and try out some new things you might not have
come across before.

I wish them all the best of luck.  Launching a gaming magazine is going to be a tough venture, and judging by the sample quoted above, they still have a lot to learn about writing.  That being said, I applaud their efforts, and look forward to watching them grow with each issue.

eBob Rebellion, Irish gallowglass green

In a recent post to his forums, eBob shared a preview of a forthcoming Irish Gallowglass model for his Rebellion range of miniatures:

Otherworld Miniatures, vouchers

Otherworld has recently implemented a voucher program to help fund a move to larger facilities:

Otherworld Miniatures is on the move! The business has now outgrown the facilities that I have available at home, and I’m hoping to move into new, dedicated business premises in the next few months. However, this move will be fairly costly, and I need to raise some funds to make this possible.

So, for the next few weeks, in a scheme shamelessly plagiarised from Hasslefree, I will be making vouchers available to customers of Otherworld Miniatures. Three different vouchers will be available.

1) Bronze Voucher – This will cost £50.00, and will be redeemable for £65.00 of Otherworld Miniatures.
2) Silver Voucher – This will cost £100.00, and will be redeemable for £140.00 of Otherworld Miniatures.
3) Gold Voucher – This will cost £200.00, and will be redeemable for £300.00 of Otherworld Miniatures.

In addition, each voucher buyer will receive a free figure which will be produced in the summer of 2010. It will be a variant model of the DM6 – Minotaur, wearing armour and wielding a spear. It will go on sale at a later date, but voucher holders will receive master castings (which will be marked on the packaging).

Vouchers will be valid until 1st April 2011, and may be spent in small portions, or as large purchases. Alternatively, a voucher may be used as a standing order to pay for all subsequent new releases until the voucher is used up.

To spend a voucher, or part of it, the holder will need to place an order by email, rather than using the usual webstore checkout system.

Vouchers may be purchased in the Otherworld Miniatures webstore until 31st March 2010. Vouchers are limited to a maximum of 2 per person, and may not be used in conjunction with other special offers or sales.

Otherworld, more greens for March release

Again, this news is a tad old, but worth reporting nonetheless, as the release date is just around the corner (on or around 10 March 2010).  I mentioned the rust monsters in an earlier post.  Other models scheduled for release at the same time include:

DM19 - Giant Slug - sculpted by Nick Genovese

DM20 - Roper - sculpted by John Pickford (note: arms positioned for casting purposes)

DD5 - Bone Devil - sculpted by Paul Muller

WE6a - Faerie Folk I (4) - sculpted by Andrew Rae

All items are currently available for preorder at the Otherworld Web site.

Otherworld, new models painted by Andrew Taylor

Despite being a huge fan of Otherworld (with a large and growing collection), I don’t feature announcements about their new products and painted samples enough.  I’m going to make a conscious effort to remedy that.

These were uploaded a few days ago, and might be old news for some of you.  Regardless, enjoy!

WE4a & WE4b - Giant Lizards

WE5a - Lizardman Warriors I

GB2 - Goblin Warriors II

GB3 - Goblin Warriors III

Corvus Belli Libyan Spearmen, second stand done

I finished this stand of Libyans a couple nights ago, and hope to have the third done soon.  I gave the two on the right eyes, because I was in that sort of mood.

Enigma Miniatures, the Old Death

Featured here are some detail shots of the Old Death model by Enigma Miniatures.  The Old Death was sculpted by Pedro Fernandez Ramos, and is included in Engima’s 30mm miniatures range Massive Darkness.

Aragorn Marks 54mm WIP

I need to thank slah over at Dragon Painting for bringing this to my attention.  Apparently it’s a 54mm WIP by Aragorn Marks based on concept art by Edouard Guiton.  Unfortunately, that’s all I know at the moment.  I’ve sent an e-mail to Aragorn, and hopefully I’ll have more information to report here soon.  in the meantime, enjoy!

EDIT: I’ve found the concept art and the thread from which this was originally pulled.  Aragorn appears to be updating the sculpt process there, so be sure to check it out, if you’re interested.

Copplestone City Spearmen, more than half done

Copplestone City Spearmen (WIP)

Here’s my latest update on my progress with the Copplestone City Spearmen.  I own four boxes of these, which comes to 12 stands (24 strips) total.  The shields on three front-row strips aren’t done, but I’ll save that for tomorrow.  I’m saving the bases and flags for last.

In the back row you can see some of the archers, 1.5 stands done.  I have four boxes of these, so my total Gondor force is comprised of 24 stands or 48 strips.

Once these are done, I’ll get back to Rohan.
