RED BOX GAMES, October 2011 releases

Red Box Games has made available for preorder their releases for next month, including the two models featured in my last post.  This release includes:

Bruiser Gus, Sleeper in the Alley, Puller of Corks, Cracker of Skulls…..ever needed that hard to find half-orc thug? This is your figure. Big, ugly, dangerous and slightly ridiculous looking he will strike fear into the hearts of any bumpkin unlucky enough to get lost in the Big City back alleys:

The Ever Wonderful Epierre the Entertainer. The perfect Elf bard figure sure to capture the hearts of all the lady adventurers and bewitch the dumb beasts of dungeon, cavern and woodland alike. ALL adventuring parties need an entertainer to lift their spirits in the dark of the dungeon deep, ALL taverns welcome a Dandy entertainer. A great piece for display or gaming you are sure to find a clever use for such a figure:

Herbert Hedgewyrd,  Far Wanderer, Candle in the Shadows, Finder of the Lost Ways, Fox Whisperer, BeeSinger, ThornWalker, Brewer of CherryMead, Friend of the Hill Folk and Keeper of Finiuimgreimclcoh. What adventuring party can’t find a place for a Halfling Illusionist / Mage / Druid??:

Mad Angus The Red Bastard of Blythe’s Cliff, a bloody savage to some, a great hero to others. This is fighter sure to wade into the thick of his enemies and leave a wreck of red ruin in his wake. Foes Beware, he is fearless and a longswordsman without peer:

Hefty Hamish Hillander abroad, graciously in service to his presumed Majesty King Ulbrecht of Aengland. Well known from the tavern to the battlefield Hamish is a stalwart fighting man as loyal to his mates as he is fearsom to his enemies!

Zyrava…………:

And for the first time from RBG, undead:

Finally the encounters range of RBG expands with the initial units of undead. There will be more to come, undead of various danger and type. But this first issue hopes to offer enough to begin populating your crypts and haunted keeps with enough mace fodder for a great little game.

WraithKnights…….. hovering ghostly and malicious these dark summons are sure to prove the mettle of any band of adventurers unfortunate enough to trespass upon their protected ground. ( Stupidly not pictured here, is the two handed weapons sprue that is included with this multipack. 2 longswords, 1 flanged mace, 1 ball mace, 1 battle axe, and 1 hammer. each is universally interchangable – except the two long swords with one particular wraith knight.):

Lesser undead. Animated like marionettes by the ethereal malice of dark magicks teh shambling undead shuffle forward mindlessly to mob and mangle any living creature that draws their attention:

The zombies deserve some special attention. A lot of miniatures companies make zombies, some even specializing in them. Of those, many are of  exceptional quality (Otherworld–see here, here, and here–and Rackham zombies come to mind, but they’re just the tip of the iceberg).  These new zombies from RBG, however, are some of the best I’ve seen.  At what is more, they’re cheap–$8.99US-for-6 cheap!  I got two sets. 😉

Another great release from RBG; I can’t wait for my order to arrive.  Expect to see photos of the models from this release against UtM’s signature ruled background sometime in October.

RED BOX GAMES, new Shireling and Aenglish sculpts

Mad Angus

Tre Manor of Red Box Games previewed two new sculpts, today: The Second of the Hillander mercenaries  Mad Angus (a.k.a. the Bastard of BlythesCliff), the second Hilland mercenary character for the Aenglish faction; and the many-titled Shireling Herbert the HedgeWyrd (Far Wanderer, Candle in the Shadows, Finder of the Lost Ways, Fox Whisperer, BeeSinger, ThornWalker, Brewer of CherryMead, Friend of the Hill Folk and Keeper of Finiuimgreimclcoh).

Herbert the HedgeWyrd

No word yet on when these will be available, but very likely sometime in the coming few months.

This are very high on my list now, as are most things from RBG these days.  Tre’s work gets keeps getting better and better; time and again he demonstrates why he ones of the best sculptors and creative minds in the industry.

For more information, visit the Red Box Games website and online store or feel free to ask Tre questions directly in this thread on Frothers.

LEGACY MINIATURES, Flesh Golem Review

LOBO recently published a review and unboxing of the Flesh Golem from Legacy Miniatures on the WAMP website.  He covers all the essential points in his review: packaging, publication, cast quality, resin quality, and overall impression of the model.

If you’re still feeling tempted by this model, but haven’t taken the plunge, LOBO’s review may help with your decision.

At the time of this writing, CMoN still had 100 left (out of a print run of either 200 or 250, I think).  They’re not exactly flying off the shelf, but stock is dwindling.

OTHERWORLD MINIATURES, Painted Samples

Otherworld Miniatures has just uploaded painted versions of some of their latest releases.

All of these were painted by the very talented Mr. Andrew Taylor.

You can purchase these models from the Otherworld online store now.  Click on an image to be taken to the corresponding section of their catalog.

LEGACY MINIATURES, Now On Sale

The dust has settled after GenCon 2011, and CMoN has announced that for those of you who, like me, could not attend, the first Legacy Miniatures models are now available from their online store.  The Mid-nor Hydra retails for $119.99 and the Flesh Golem $79.99.  As of this writing, there were 127 Hydras and 175 Golems available; these are limited edition models.

BEDERKEN MINIATURES, Ensorcelled Toads

Dave King of BeDerken Miniatures recently previewed four ensorcelled toads in a thread on Frothers.  The toads should be available from the BeDerken online store in a few weeks.

MID-NOR HYDRA, Unboxing

A member on the DragonPainting.net forum, atacam, has just uploaded several photos of the Mid-Nor Hydra from Legacy Miniatures.  According to atacam, “It goes together beautifully, with little to no trimming on certain parts.”

Rumor has it that the next two models from Legacy are the Mid-Nor cyclops and an Acheron character.

AARKLASH ARCHIVE UPDATE, Concept Non Validé

I’ve just added a new page to the Graphica section of the Aarklash Archive titled Concept Non Validé.  Featured in this section are several pieces of rejected concept art for Rackham studios.  These were first made available in Cry Havoc Online.  I have several more similar pieces of concept art from the old CHOs, which I will upload once I decide where best to put them.

RED BOX GAMES, Celebrating Four Years

Kyrie Brighthelm

Tre Manor of Red Box Games has announced a great sale in honor of their fourth year of business:

Well Guys, we have made it 4 years. I think that officially means I have beaten the odds that most companies fold within the first 3 years or is it 5? Ah well who cares. On with the savings. I am currently running a sale in which EVERYTHING is discounted down by $2.00. Yes that is right two full dollars. The sale starts today, Monday the 1st of August, and runs to next Monday the 8th of August ending at midnight that night.

This is a great opportunity to support one of the great talents in the industry and pick up some amazing models.  I highly recommend RBG’s latest releases, some of which are featured in this post.

CoolMiniorNot has just released images of the painted versions of Legacy Miniatures’ Mid-Nor Hydra and Flesh Golem.  Both of these models will be for sale at GenCon 2011 (this weekend) and from the CMoN store thereafter.  They are printed in resin and available on a limited basis.

WYRD, Malifaux Previews

Carver (sculpted by Jody SIEGEL)

Tabletop Gaming News just uploaded an article featuring a ton of upcoming releases from Wyrd for their Malifaux game system.  The article includes concept art, sculpts, and painted samples of the models.  My favorites are Carver, Molly, and the alternative Ramos.

AARKLASH ARCHIVE, Updates Continued, etc.

Worg of the Waxing Moon

I’ve decided to resume updating the Faction/model catalog section of the Aarklash Archive, and have made two sections of the Bibliotheca available to the public again (C3 cards and the Hybrid rules section, the latter featuring a downloadable PDF of the fan rewrite of the Hybrid and Nemesis rules, “Strain SI-ep23 Viral”).

I’ve also finished the first draft of the Wolfen page in the Faction/model catalog section, and will begin revising and updating the entries with more information shortly (concept art, artist, sculptor, etc).  The Cadwallon page, however, will get most of my attention over the coming week, as the second draft has been incomplete for too long.  In the meantime, if you notice any models missing from the Wolfen page, please let me know.

ADMINISTRATIVE, Legacy Miniatures Page

I’ve started a page devoted to Legacy Miniatures releases.  At the moment there is just one entry, the Mid-Nor Hydra, which features photos of the original sculpt and all of the preview images of the final product that have been made public to date.

I’ll add an entry for the flesh golem later today, and others as information and images become available.  If you catch something before I do, by all means, please let me know.

I apologize for the blurry image at the top of this post (it’s the best I have), but found it fitting for an announcement tied to the Legacy project.  This is concept art for the Kelt living legend model on aurochs mount, which had a product code and release date at one time, but Rackham, for whatever reason, chose not to release.  I’ve seen pictures of the aurochs sculpt, but not the rider.  I wonder if Legacy will release this model.  <wink-wink, nudge-nudge>

COMPANY LINKS, Bederken and MadFly

I’ve added links in the COMPANIES column on the left For Bederken Miniatures, MadFly Miniatures, and MadFly Bases.

EUREKA MINIATURES, Cú Chulainn Preview

Jody Siegel of Imbrian Arts recently previewed his incredible sculpt of Cú Chulainn for Eureka Miniatures on the OzPainters forum.

Cu Chulainn is a character from Celtic mythology. He’s known to go into “warp spasms” which is similar to berzerker rages but according to some of the stories the body sometimes takes on some strange contortions similar to shape changes. The client wanted the miniature to be more human shaped (and naked) so I decided to make the veins very visible to show off the stress that the body is under.

This is an incredible sculpt.  It’s dynamic, exudes power, and has the perfect amount of detail for a model of this type (enough to make the sculpt come to life, but restrained to the proper degree so that it’s not overly intimidating to paint).  I’m getting two.
